Sometimes the most meaningful photos happen in the spaces between chaos and calm. Enter Stephanie and her sweet, energetic toddler, Dominic.
This session took place at a local park and lasted just 20 minutes—but in that short window, we found everything we needed: sunlight, movement, emotion, and real connection. Dominic was curious, spirited, and hilariously honest. (At exactly 15 minutes in, he looked at me and said, “Okay—that’s enough of this.” Fair.)
Luckily, a quick trip to the swings bought us a little more time—and gave us some of the most joy-filled frames of the day. I pulled out all the tricks in my photographer toolbox to keep him engaged—a dance between play, patience, and permission. And in those little in-between moments—when he reached for his mom, leaned into her shoulder, or laughed at something only they understood—that’s where the story really lived.
Stephanie hadn’t had professional photos taken since her son was born. For her, this session wasn’t just about checking a box—it was about freezing a stage that’s moving fast, one she knows won’t last. Hearing how much the images meant to her afterward was the reminder I needed of why I do this work.
Though this particular session was gifted as part of a conference giveaway, I don’t currently offer mini sessions year-round. Most of the stories I capture unfold more fully in longer, unhurried sessions—but I share this one because it reflects something true: with the right approach, a lot of beauty can happen in just a little bit of time.
And more importantly—this is what real life looks like. Imperfect. Fleeting. Completely worth remembering.
